A world made by people

Blackout did not arrive fully formed.

It grew from a Creative Realm, a decision to try Survival, and the kind of community that turns a spawn argument into a court case. This is the record without pretending every moment was perfectly sensible.

01

Before Blackout

Before there was a blackout.

Blackout started with a quieter Bedrock Realm, a Facebook Minecraft girls group, and a lot of Creative-mode ambition.

Creative Realm

Darkgod565 made the Realm. GHOST3DGIRL joined first; AutumnBreeze1374 was there early too. Everyone mostly claimed their own patch of world and built houses, stables, dragons, cities, and whatever else sounded good at the time.

The first demolition

Dark finished a house, turned around, saw how good Ghost’s house looked, and immediately destroyed her own. A strong opening statement for the community’s future relationship with builds.

Mikey survives

Every Warden became “Mikey.” The joke outlived the Realm, which is more than can be said for most early builds.

Spring 2025 / Early Season 1

A Survival server, somehow.

Around April 2025, Darkgod565 and Sniffglue420 turned the urge to play Survival into a Java server that was supposed to be bigger than one small friend group.

The first world

Dark, Sniffglue420, and BubblegumC_21 were among the earliest players and builders. The Blackout SMP Castle was one of the first meaningful landmarks. Everyone was learning Survival the hard way: the original players were, by their own account, noobs.

Streams changed the scale

Dark began streaming on Twitch, TikTok, and YouTube to find players. The first broadcasts were shy and awkward, with about three people around—until viewers began asking to join. MezstillPlayz and Savounmo were among the early recruits.

The first court case had a mace

Sav repeatedly macing Dark at spawn became one of the first notable bits of drama. It eventually led to Dark taking Sav to court. Blackout was already making normal Minecraft problems extremely official.

Season 1 / The world fills in

The map got neighbours.

Civilisations began as a friendlier name for groups and grew into the social map of Season 1: towns, leaders, alliances, enemies, flags, and all the nonsense that comes with them.

More than bases

DarkCiv grew into a city, Withermoon held its ground, Foxglove Lane and Ghostly Meadows stayed comparatively peaceful, and Ironveil became one of the strongest and most dangerous Civilisations. DarkLuna extended DarkCiv; Kumo Civ and Somewhere allied with Withermoon. Yes: Somewhere was led by Something.

A very normal political landscape

Dark Impulse was allied with Ironveil, had enemies almost everywhere, caused plenty of drama, and was eventually blown up by its own leader, Symseyy. Sparcut spent time as a not-especially-secret double agent between DarkCiv and Ironveil.

A place to fight on purpose

Dark built a Season 1 PvP Arena so practice, tournaments, and fights did not have to happen in the survival world. Sav vs Symesy and Iceyy vs Viper were among the matches people remember.

Season 1 / Behind the scenes

Vanilla, with consequences.

Blackout began almost completely vanilla. Sparcut’s arrival changed how the world could be run without turning it into a different game.

Enough tweaks to matter

Permissions, formatting, anti-grief and anti-cheat protections, claims, homes, teleport requests, player shops, graves, event worlds, moderation history, emotes, and even fish slap made the server safer, easier to run, and more fun to live in.

The philosophy stayed put

The point was never an unrecognisable modpack. Blackout stayed Survival Minecraft with a few tweaks that let more people build, play, and occasionally sit on each other’s heads.

A small technical note

Mez tried to move a castle with WorldEdit and said, “This shouldn’t crash the server.” It crashed the server.

More people kept it running

As the community grew, so did the team. GHOSTEDGIRL, Sparcut, LovleySB, IceyyIce135, Symseyy, Locatingtubb, and others helped turn a server run by a few people into a collaborative project.

Season 1 / A wider door

Java stopped being the whole story.

A couple of months in, players watching streams wanted to join without Java Edition or a computer. Darkgod565 and Sparcut made room for them.

Back to the roots

Blackout’s roots were Bedrock. Cross-platform support brought Java and Bedrock players back into the same community and became part of what makes the server Blackout.

Same world, different controllers

The aim has been to keep the experience as similar as possible across editions—not to turn the milestone into a configuration manual.

New Year’s Eve 2025

The ending was not subtle.

Season 1 was quieting down. A backup existed. A new season was coming. Dark decided the old world deserved an ending involving TNT and an alarming amount of WorldEdit.

Spawn comes apart

Only Dark, Sparcut, Ghost, and Icey knew in advance. Players were not gathered for a ceremony; they logged in to discover their world actively being destroyed. Viper_Queen found spawn going up first.

The reaction arc

Shock became horror, which eventually became understanding once people learned the world had been backed up and Season 2 was on the way. Dark’s contribution to the historic moment was laughing and continuing to blow things up.

Nothing was lost

Season 1 still exists as a backup. The destruction was not an accident. It was the ending.

January 2026 / Season 2

Start over. Keep the scars.

Season 2 began in a new world with no inventories carried across. Some Season 1 builds returned as ruins, because Blackout did not want to pretend the previous world had never happened.

Civilisations became Factions

Season 2 brought a stronger PvP focus and Lifesteal, so “Faction” fit better than “Civilisation.” Void Ascended was first; The Abyss became one of the strongest and brought plenty of drama. The living faction directory belongs on the People page, not here.

Ten hearts and the box

Lifesteal launched with ten hearts: kills moved a heart from victim to killer, with twenty as the maximum. At zero, a player went to the box until revived. Hearts could be crafted and traded. Rockycoast made it there four times. Lifesteal is currently disabled.

Progress, delayed

The End opened later than launch so players could not immediately rush the Dragon, Elytras, and End progression. Season 2 was meant to have room to begin.
